1979 to 1980
It was in 1976, when Pastor Ed, while pastoring a church in
Camalig, Albay, had an eye problem that led him to go to Manila every month for
a checkup. While traveling, the train that he was riding got an engine trouble
and literally stopped in the San Pedro train station. It was on that day that
God gave him a spiritual vision, despite the physical eye affliction, to behold
with compassion, the people in San Pedro, Laguna.
With God's leading, Dr. Ed and his wife, with their
three-month-old daughter, Mishael, stepped into the soil of the Laguna province
in 1978. The family traveled in a rented jeepney to the last
block of east San Pedro, Laguna and settled there. Christian Baptist Mission
formally opened its first Sunday service on January 22, 1978 with 13 young
people/adults and 29 children. Preparations were done by spending two weeks on
soulwinning and door knocking, three hours each in the morning, afternoon, and
evening.
In 1979, Christian Baptist Mission was
organized into a local Baptist church, Christian Baptist Church (CBC), which was
sent out from Octagon Bible Baptist Church, Pasig, Metro Manila, then under the
leadership of Pastor Lloyd Baker. The average attendance was 50 young people and
adults.
After a year, in 1980, more souls had been
added to the Church and the people were taught to give. In fact, CBC's first
anniversary marked the giving of firstfruits offering of the Church. This was
also the year that the Church started supporting missions.
